Changing role of Naga women discussed

The 9th Conference cum Annual Assembly of Naga Women's Union was held at Chandel Christian Village Sports Complex under the theme of "Naga Politics and changing role of Women" with Anal Sinnu Ruwl as the host of the event.
The three-day long NWU's triennial Conference cum annual Assembly which concluded this evening, was inaugurated in the evening of October 4 at the conference hall of the sports complex.
Apart from guests and invitees, 330 women delegates representing 13 Nagas Tribes from four hill districts of Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul took part in the conference.

The second day of the celebration on October 5, the Foundation Day of the Union was commemorated.
On the occasion, Naga People's Movement for Human Rights activist Ningreichon Tungshang spoke on the topic of "Naga Women: Defending Rights, Land and People" .
It was followed by unfurling of NWU's flag by First President of Naga Women Union Chandel Th Jeksha Monsang.
Choreographed performances by Monsang Sanuw Ruh and Folk songs presentation by Anal Sinnu Ruwl and Maram Women's Union were other highlights of the event in the first session which began from 8:00 am.
IN the afternoon session, while addressing the gathering, President of Naga Women's Union Aram Pamei stated that such events provided Naga Women opportunity to share their experiences, learn from one another and hold progressive debate to bring positive changes in the society.
Elucidating on the theme of the conference, Aram Pamei exhorted Naga Women to look forward to ideas and discourses around the theme.
She also said, 'In this Conference, we will have important deliberations on the changing role of women from domestic chores of daily life to the wider domain of Naga politics' .
Apart from address by United Naga Council President L Adani, Solidarity messages from Indigenous Women's Forum of North-East India, (IWFNEI), Naga Students' Federation, (NSF), All Naga Students' Association Manipur, (ANSAM), NPMHR and Naga Socialist Women's Organization Nagalim (NSWON) were read out and Traditional displays and Folk Songs were performed by various Women Tribe Unions in the same afternoon session attended by various distinguished guests and invitees including officials of UNC, NSF, ANSAM, CNPO, NWUC and district level officers.
The General Assembly session of the Naga Women's Union to elect new Officers of the Union was conducted on the last day of the conference today.
