ADB to finance road connectivity in Manipur

Imphal, August 06 2013:
A sum of Rs.1800 crores would be sanctioned from Asian Development Bank (ADB) for development of roads and bridges in the State especially for national highways, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar told media persons at his office chamber at Old Secretariat Complex here today.
He further said that a proposal for development of six roads has been sent to ADB.
The roads are 110-kilometre long Imphal-Moreh Road (NH-2); 85-kilometre long road from Imphal to Wangjing, Heirok and Khudengthabi; 34-kilometre long ring road in Greater Imphal; road from Imphal to Kangchup, Tamenglong, Tousem and Haflong; 197-kilometre long Imphal-Jiribam Road (NH-370; 160-kilometre long road from Imphal to Ukhrul, Konkan and Thana; and 120-kilometre long road from Imphal to Moirang, Wangoo, Churachandour and Behiang.

Mission Leader of South-Asian Sub-Regional Economic Cooperative (SASEC), Asian Development Bank Hiroaki Yamaguchi has also arrived at Imphal.
Land surveys have been completed and the proposed works would be implemented as an Externally Aided Project (EAP), Minister Ratankumar noted.
Hiroaki Yamaguchi, who was also present on the occasion, said that road development works in Manipur is a part of Rs.3000-crore project of Asian Development Bank to connect 11 Indian states with neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
The Indo-Myanmar Road Project would also be taken up under Regional Cooperation and Integrated (RCI) Project, the ADB representative stated.
Project Director of NESRIP, PWD Y Joykumar said that the project would be implemented under sample category for which the project would be shared between Central and State Government in the ratio of 90:10.Imphal-Moreh Road would be converted into four lanes and it has been top priority, he added.
The alternative route from Wangjing to Khudengthabi connecting Imphal-Moreh Road has been placed at second while Imphal Ring Road at third in the priority list of works of the project.
The amount from ADB has to be returned in a period of 20/30 years, Joykumar noted.
