Do not mislead the public with baseless claims: All Zeliangrong Organisation

Imphal, February 06 2021: All Zeliangrong Organisation has urged the Kabui Union Manipur not to mislead the Rongmei and Zeliangrong community with baseless claims.

Meibon Phaomei, president of All Zeliangrong Organisation said this at a press meet held today at his residence at Namdunlong, Imphal.

He added that Rongmei, Rengmei, Puimai and Zeme communities had been living together with other indigenous communities in the State since ages and had been organising their own traditional festivals to protect and preserve their culture.

Rejecting the claim made by Kabui Union Manipur that other communities had not celebrated 'Gaan Ngai' festival and that it is the festival of 'Kabui' only, he claimed that 'Rongmei' community had been celebrating the same festival even before the term 'Kabui' was coined.

He also pointed out that the real name of Kabui Union Manipur's president Hera Kabui was in fact 'Hera Marangmei' which was a clan name of 'Rongmei' community.

This shows that Kabui and Rongmei were the same community before the term 'Kabui' was coined in 2000 by some people, he claimed.

Meibon Phaomei added that the history of Rongmei will remain as it was in the past and cannot be changed even if others try to suppress the truth.
