World Breastfeeding Week celebrated

The celebration of 'World Breastfeeding Week' was held under the theme 'Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all' at the auditorium of Representatives of Lois (RoL), Kakching Chumnang Leikai today.
The celebration was organised jointly by the District Programme Officer, ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) and ICDS Project Kakching.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kakching Dr Thaodem Rajen graced the celebration as the chief guest while DPO/CDPO -ICDS Kakching Ningthoujam Parango and DFWO/DIO Kakching Dr Elangbam Kiran Singh graced as the president and guest of honour respectively.
ICDS Kakching Supervisor Uma Salam delivered the keynote address of the programme while District Public Health Nursing Officer Kakching W Hemabati Devi spoke as the resource person deliberating on the importance of breastfeeding.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Thaodem Rajen provided insights into the health benefits of breastfeeding and its importance on the health of the infants and mothers which aids in strengthening the immune system of the baby and keeping the mothers healthy.
He stressed on the need of raising mass awareness to promote breastfeeding.
It is highly important that a newborn is breastfed for upto six months which is vital for the healthy well-being of the baby and the mother, he added.
