Tamenglong, December 04 2020:
In pursuance of its charter of demands on various issues confronting the populace of the State and in continuation of the ongoing tour to hill districts, a team All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) volunteers visited Tamenglong district on December 1 last and held a meeting with the district administration at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong.
A press release issued by ATSUM said that the district administration was led by Armstrong Pame, DC.
The visiting team stressed on various issues such as education system, health facilities, the functioning of ADC and other major aspects concerning the tribal populace of the district.
Saying that health care system in the district needs special attention of the State Government for effective and efficient administration as most of the health institutions are located in interior parts of the district, the students union continued that there is no blood bank facility and dialysis machine in the district hospital, apart from not having staff quarters and potable water facilities in most of the health institutions.
Considering the geographical remoteness of the areas and in view of the global pandemic COVID-19, the apex tribal students body appealed to the State Government to undertake citizen-centric initiative related to the health care system and provide adequate medical facilities with full-strength staff as an urgent requirement.
ATSUM executives also inspected the lone college in the district Tamenglong College and interacted with the administrative staff there, it added.
Meanwhile, in a video released to the media, Seiboi Haokip, president of ATSUM, appealed to the State Government to redress the various grievances being faced by the college such as lack of infrastructures and staff.
The college is functioning without a clerk and the present teaching staff strength does not even reach the sanctioned posts, he said.
Seiboi Haokip also appealed to the authority concerned to initiate a process for opening of Science stream at the college.
