Imphal, August 04 2015:
The Highway Truck Owners' Welfare Organisation (HITOWO) has appealed to the authorities concerned and contractors to take up safety measures at places where road constructions are in progress.
HITOWO made the appeal in the wake of a mishap that occurred at a road diversion at Kwakeithel along Tiddim Road last night resulting in the injuries of two persons.
Both the injured persons were admitted to Raj Medicity.
Briefing media persons today at Kwakeithel, publicity secretary of HITOWO Konthoujam Brojendro said that uncontrolled, rampant and uncensored road diversions in the name of road expansion and drain construction have led to numerous accidents during night time.
He added that mishaps will continue to claim casualty if the road diversions are not well maintained with proper reflectors and indicators.
HITOWO had earlier urged the authority concerned to step up safety measures at road diversions.
But no positive action has been taken up so far towards this end, he said.
He warned of launching agitation if the appeals to put in place reflectors and other visible indication at road diversion points are not heeded.
