Imphal, July 04 2011:
About a hundred residents of the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh gathered together Monday and consigned their BSNL telephone receivers to a smoldering fire in protest against erratic service of the state-owned telephone service provider.
At about 4:35 pm today about a hundred BSNL customers assembled in front of Meitei Council Moreh (MCM) office near Moreh Market and set their BSNL telephone receivers and WLL on fire, said a source.
"The drastic move has been resorted to because our persistent complaints about the erratic telephone service in Moreh have fallen on deft ears of the authority," said a distraught BSNL customer.
The border town located at about 110 km away from the capital Imphal has been painfully denied access to communication despite having been one of the most important centers of trade and commerce in the state.
