Imphal, June 04 2020: A 53-year-old man who allegedly uploaded fake news on social media has been arrested by the police today.

The arrested person has been identified as Pheiroijam Kripa Meitei (53) son of Krishna Meitei of Nongada Awang Leikai presently staying at a rented house at Leirikyengbam Makha Leikai.

He uploaded a fake news on Facebook and WhatsApp stating that Bishnupur district has been declared as a containment zone as one of Municipal workers tested positive for COVID 19 .

A lot of panic was caused due to the fake news.

A team from Bishnupur Police Station led by Inspector K Dinesh with assistance of Cyber Crime Unit Imphal West arrested the man from his rented house.
