Imphal, May 04 2019:
The Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organisation (MDAVO) strongly condemned the order of the Chief Minister to ban and close the operation of boats ferrying in the Mapithel dam area.
The organisation in a statement today asserted that the ban without proper alternatives arrangements will deepen the wound and suffering of the villagers affected by the dam.
The affected people will be left with little or means of transport, said MDAVO.
Aftermath the severe storm that capsized boats and killed three persons at Chadong, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had announced that all unauthorised and unsafe boats will be banned from operating in selected water bodies.
MDAVO further maintained that the construction of Mapithel project caused many unwanted incidents including loss of lives as 'no detailed impact assessment' with preventive measures was carried out.
The Govt should release the impounded water of Mapithel dam and ensure natural free flow of the water as permanent solution to end the suffering of the affected villagers, said MDAVO.
