The seed sowing festival of the Tangkhul community, �Luira Phanit� was celebrated today with much fanfare and cultural extravaganzas in a star-studded function held at the Lower Hunphung High School ground in Ukhrul district under the aegis of Lower Hunphung Public Organisation.
The celebration function was graced by the chief of Hunphung village, MKS Hungam as the chief guest while Mutum Churamani, secretary of Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) and Sunil Karam, secretary of National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) were the special invitees.
Celebrated Manipuri film actresses and actors have also attended the function.
Speaking as the chief guest, MKS Hungam wished that the seed sowing festival also sows the seed of love between the hill and the valley people afresh.
NIPCO secretary, Sunil Karam said that the ability to showcase one�s own culture is an indicator of an existing community.
He also said that organising such festival by enabling all communities of the state would give an ample platform for sharing views which will also be a stepping stone towards developing together.
While saying that the people of the state are one he also said that the people cannot be separated.
In his speech, Mutum Churamani said that the people must not forget that the people of the state are one.
The people of the hill and the valley are inter-dependent and the people must strive to live as one.
The Luira Phanit celebration was marked by presentation of traditional songs and seed sowing dance of the Tangkhuls, Maibi Jagoi of the Meiteis.
Another attraction of the festival was the appearance of various Manipuri film artists like Olen, Kaiku, Kamala, Maya Choudhury, and Guna.
Their shows and acting was another delectation of the programme.
