Sit-in demands justice for Y Somorjit Singh

A sit-in protest was staged today at Ibudhou Naohal Lai Lampak, Kakching Keithel over the accidental death of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, Yengkhom Somorjit Singh of Kakching Mayai Leikai who passed away in a road accident near Uningkhong in Thoubal district on January 30 .
The protesters, which included members of various student bodies and civil society organisations, demanded justice for the late Chief Judicial Magistrate and condemned the company tasked with construction work of National Highway 102 for its negligence.
Speaking to media persons, the daughter of late Y Somorjit Singh expressed her disappointment over the alleged negligence of the construction company and for not installing any signboards or reflectors to indicate the construction site.

Calling the construction company liable for the death of her father, she appealed to the Government and concerned company to look into the matter and carry out necessary measures to prevent further accidents in the future.
Apunba Ireibaki Maheiroi Singlup president, Premchand stated that no visible actions have been initiated by the police or concerned authority over the complaints made earlier in regard to the tragic demise of Y Somorjit at Khongjom Police and construction company.
Expressing his anguish over the poor construction work in the said road which has led to many accidents in the recent past, Premchand announced that AIMS would provide all possible assistance in the fight to bring justice to Y Somorjit and urged the Government to ensure necessary precautions and protocol are observed by road repairing agencies to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
ADAM Kakching secretary, Ksh Surjit expressed his grief over the untimely demise of Late Y Somorjit and stated that it is high time for the people to come together against such negligence by construction companies which has led to many accidents over the years.
Placards with the slogan, "Construction company is liable for the death of Y Somorjit", "We condemn the tragic demise of Y Somorjit", "We want justice for Y Somorjit", etc were extensively used at the protest.
