Sharmila seeks public support

Social activist Irom Sharmila was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate (first class), Imphal East which remanded her to another 15-day judicial custody on Friday.
Sharmila, whose fast-unto-death over the demand of repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) completed 13 years recently, is produced in the same court every 15 days on routine basis since she started her crusade against the controversial military Act.
Heavy security personnel were present inside the court complex as a large number of her supporters, including Sharmila's supposed lover and social activist Desmond Coutinho from UK, journalists from other states were waiting for the human rights activist outside the complex.
The police, however, refused the supporters and journalists to meet her, resulting in a minor scuffle.
They hurriedly took her away in an ambulance.
Sharmila got a few moments to speak to the crowd when she said she wants support from the public in her movement.
M Momon Leima, co-convenor, Sharmila Kanba Lup (SAKAL), described the movement by Sharmila as a unique movement, appealing to all to support it with heart and soul.
She also appealed to prevent from any kind of act that can damage her cause.
