Saitu Gamphazol civil bodies demonstrate unity on Gandhi Jayanti

Leaders of 44 villages within Saitu-Gamphazol in Kangpokpi District under the aegis of Saitu Gamphazol Area Village Organization (SGAVO), Saitu Gamphazol Area Youth Organization (SGAYO), Saitu Gamphazol Area Women Organization (SGAWO) and Area Chiefs conducted mass cleanliness drives and displayed its unity on Gandhi Jayanti today.
Home to various prominent Kuki politicians including ex-MP Paokai Haokip, leaders of Saitu Gamphazol area with spades, knives and other necessary materials came out to the street of Sapormeina - Pangmol road and engaged themselves in cleanliness activities.
Ex-MP Paokai Haokip and the local Autonomous District Council Sadar Hills Councillor, Lunthang Haokip set the mood of the mass cleanliness drive with their significant presence while leading the cleanliness activities including mending of potholes along the 4 kms Sapormeina-Pangmol road.
As part of the Nationwide cleanliness day to commemorate the 149th birth anniversary of the father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Saitu Gamphazol area had also declared October 2 as working day or cleanliness day in the area and has been observing the day annually since its declaration.
Interestingly, the volunteers feasted after indulging in the daylong work.
Speaking to media persons, the local MDC Lunthang Haokip said that October 2 is the working or cleanliness day in Saitu-Gamphazol area.
"We observe the day annually for cleaning our surroundings," he said.
"People of Saitu-Gamphazol area always promote hygienic lifestyles and cleanliness.
Being human, there might be differences of opinions and views in various issues but when it comes to cleanliness, no issues can divert our unity and we voluntarily set forward unitedly for clean and tidy Saitu-Gamphazol", he said.
"If the future lies in togetherness and living in harmony, we need to crank up our civic consciousness and standards of environmental and personal hygiene to trigger a cultural revolution that would subsume all other ideological movements," said the local MDC.
"Both inner and outer cleanliness are crucial in any effort to evolve as a better human being," asserted ex-MP Paokai Haokip who also actively took part in the cleanliness drive.
