Imphal, June 02 2018:
The Manipur College Students Union has sought immediate attention of the State Government over the failure to take up any developmental works in the college following the misuse of the college funds granted by UGC.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur College, the general secretary of Manipur College Students Union, AK Debekto claimed that the funds sanctioned by University Grants Commission (UGC) for the said College, was misused by the college Principal of that time.
He further claimed that following the misuse of fund, the UGC has stopped sanctioning funds for the college, which is rather unfortunate.
No proper developmental works and projects have been taken up in the college since the funds meant for welfare and progress of the College have been cut off.
He further pointed out that the third circle of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) falls next year and the college would not be able to maintain its B grade status when the next assessment arrives as the College has stopped receiving welfare funds and is unable to initiate any developmental works.
The fate of the students of Manipur College now hang in the balance as the college is on the verge of liquidation, he lamented.
Urging the State Govt to look into the matter at the earliest, the student union warned to launch intense forms of agitation if the Government fails to heed the grievances of the students.
