Stray incidents mar pollings; several repolls likely

Though Monday's polling in the six ADCs spread in five hill districts was officially described more or less peaceful, there were stray incidents which disrupted polling and polling in some stations had to be abandoned.
Official indications are that there may be repolls at least in 20 polling stations.
Meanwhile, the polls in six polling stations in Henglep which could not be held along with others due to failure of the polling personnel and materials to reach the destinations will be held on June 4 .
There were various percentages of polling in the hill districts.
The polling was slow in the morning but picked up pace later.
Till afternoon, there were 42 to 50% pollings in Tamenglong and Sadar Hills.

It was 42% at Kangpokpi, 40% at Saitu.
There were disruptions of polling at Thangal Surung, Y Langkhong, H Champhai, Maojang, Thong Lanpham, Terakhong and Kamu Saithang.
Official indications are that repolls may be ordered there.
In Churachandpur District, the turnout percentage varied from 44 to 71.The highest percentage of 90 was recorded till afternoon in Ukhrul district.
There were disruptions at Rihahrote, Mulam and Monlom and indications are that there may be repolls.
In Senapati district there were 32% pollings whereas it was 68% in Chandel district.
Ballot boxes in 8 polling stations were smashed and voting had to be abandoned.
Polling personnel in two stations returned to the headquarters in view of disturbances.
In Senapati, some women snatched ballot boxes and poured ink inside some other boxes.
In Chandel District, some ballot papers were torn and ink poured into the boxes.
Such reports were received from Mao and Tadubi in Senapati district also.
