Film fest on Tangkhul culture going places

A Film Festival on Tangkhul Culture, an initiative of filmmakers to promote the dying culture of the indigenous people, was organized with the support of ICCR, Shillong and District Administration, Ukhrul, Manipur at NEC auditorium here today.
The event aimed at creating awareness on the significance of preserving the rich, diverse and age-old culture of Tangkhul Nagas.
The Shillong Premiere of the festival was held to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of Tangkhul Students' Union of Shillong (Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Shillong) .
This was the second edition of the Film Festival with the first hosted for School Children and select audience at Ukhrul headquarters on the 28th of August, 2012 .
In today's programme, Bimal Bajaj graced as chief guest with PP Shrivastava, Member of NEC, former Minister RG Lyngdoh and retired IAS Shri Pritish Chakraborty as honoured guests.

Shrivastava and Bimal Bajaj addressed the audience with words of encouragement for promoting culture.
In this second edition of the film festival, three documentary films on Tangkhul culture, which include the National Award Winner (India 2010) 'Songs of Mashangva' directed by Oinam Doren, 'Kungyee' directed by Chaoba Thiyam and produced by Pamreiso Shimray and 'The Dying Giant' directed by N.Jagoi were screened for the select and invited audiences.
Renowned musician Rewben Mashangva also performed at the festival.
The Shillong Premiere of the festival was an initiative of Dangthi Media in collaboration with TKLS Golden Jubilee Planning Committee.
In the first edition, the event was managed by Independent Filmmakers bringing the National Award Winner (India 2010) 'Songs of Mashangva' back to its roots where the film belongs to.
For the first time, Rewben and his son Saka also performed together in front of the school children in Ukhrul.
As many as 29 educational institutes from Ukhrul town were invited and about 1850 audience turned up for the first ever film fest held for school children in Ukhrul.
