Imphal, August 31 2015:
Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) while welcoming the Government's move of passing three Bills to safeguard the indigenous people of the State said that the State Government would receive people's applause only when they succeed in getting Governor's assent to transform it into Act.
In a statement, IPAK said that ILPS would not serve any purpose if the indigenous people do not give up the habit of being dependant on non-locals.
Saying that ILPS is enforced both in Mizoram and Nagaland, IPAK said that however it is more effective in Mizoram as Mizos are less dependant on non-locals.
Maintaining that only 10 per cent of the total area of Manipur is valley, IPAK urged the valley people to stop sale of land to outsiders.
It further observed that it is not fair to enforce a regulation that do not permit valley people to purchase land in hill areas but allow hill people to own land in valley areas.
Regarding physical fitness, IPAK urged the local clubs to conduct martial art training programmes for atleast 50 youths for which the civil society organisation would arrange trainers.
It further said that IPAK would celebrate its foundation day at Manipur Press Club on September 7 .
IPAK also urged the concerned not to call any bandh or general strike on this day.
On the other hand, IPAK chairman has approved the election of W Bobby Luwang and RK Bhaskar as the finance secretary and publicity secretary of IPAK respectively.
