Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol observes 'World No Tobacco Day'

Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) observed 'World No Tobacco Day' at the conference hall of its Head Office located at Konung Mamang Pureiromba Khongnang Makhong today.
The day was observed under the theme 'Tobacco: Threat to Environment' .
The inaugural function was organised by KC Romeo, president, Manipur Peace and Integrity Council (MAPI Council), Hijam Priyokumar, functional president CADA, Sapam Ongbi Bimola, president Thoubal District United Women's Development Organization (Thoubal Ima) and Lourembam Ongbi Pramo, president Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL) Bishnupur as the presidium members, said a press release by CADA.

Delivering the keynote address, Geetchandra Mangang, secretary general CADA elaborated on the adverse effects of using tobacco products.
He stated that deforestation is done on a large scale for the production activities of tobacco products leading to global warming thereby affecting the natural ecosystem.
Regarding the health hazards of using tobacco products, he said that prolonged use of tobacco products leads to various types of cancer which poses a big threat to one's life.
The non-degradable waste left by these tobacco products is one of the main causes of environmental pollution, he added.
In today's programme, the dignitaries also highlighted the harmful effects of using tobacco products and urged all to refrain from using such products, added the release.
