Bpr/Jiri/Spti/Kpi, May 31 2019: As observed all over the globe, World No Tobacco Day 2019 with focus on "Tobacco and Lung Health" was also celebrated across the State today.

World Health Organization (WHO) and global partners celebrate World No Tobacco Day (WNTD)every year on May 31 .

Bishnupur: The World No Tobacco Day was observed at training hall of former CMO Office, Bishnupur Friday.

M Kapajit Singh, SDO Bishnupur Dr T Manihar Singh, CMO Bishnupur and Dr L Raichandra Singh, DNO Bishnupur attended the event organised by Bishnupur District Health Society under National Tobacco Control Programme.

NHPC Loktak Power Station too observed the day at the office of General manager Loktak Power Station.

Aloke Kumar Ghosh, Chief General manager, LPS administered pledge to sensitise officials about harmful effects of tobacco consumption.

He appealed all employees to strive to make the power station premises "Tobacco Free Zone" .

Jiribam: Carrying message of World No Tobacco Day Manipur Students' Federation (MSF), Jiribam District Committee organised a silent mass awareness rally at Jiribam, today.

The rally participated by numerous students and volunteers of MSF commenced from Jiribam Higher Secondary School and proceeded towards IB Karong and Jiri Bazaar.

District Health Society, Jiribam and Jiribam District Police also organised "World No Tobacco Day 2019" at Jiribam Bazar, opposite Irabot's statue, today.

Senapati: The World No Tobacco Day was observed at ADC Conference Hall, Senapati with A Kapani, Chairman, ADC, Senapati and John Hingba, Vice Chairman, ADC, Senapati as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

The program was organised by the District Health Society, Senapati.

Speaking at the event, Dr Loli Mao, Director/CMO, DHS, Senapati said that 6 millions die every year because of tobacco.

5,500 die yearly in India because of it.

Most cancer cases are caused by use of tobacco, Dr Loli added.

Kangpokpi: The World No Tobacco Day was observed at Model English Higher Secondary School, Saikul.

Hemant Pandey, IPS, SP Kangpokpi, Lhingneikim Kipgen, ZEO Kangpokpi, Sapam Subinson, MCS, SDO Saikul, Seimang Lupho, president, Kuki Inpi Saikul and Dr Kimneng Misao, CMO/DMD, DHS Kangpokpi attended the event as presidium members.

Thongjalun Mate, Member ADC Sadar Hills, Emanuel Infuriates, MPS, Addl SP Kangpokpi, Capt Rochit Pandey, Commander, Saikul AR Outpost and Haokhosei Touthang, president, Saikul Area Private School Association and others attended the event.
