District Malaria Officer (DMO) Dr
Joyson M Monsang extended gratitude to
Chandel DC and CMO for their contribution
in making the observance programme a suc-

He asserted that the theme "End Malaria
for Good" with a target set for 2030 is not
an easy vision.
However, the aim of eradicating malaria
could be achieved with collective efforts of
all the stakeholders.
Dr Joyson said after the death of eight
lakh people in 1953 due to malaria, the
National Malaria Eradication Programme
(NMEP) was started.
In the year 2003-04, NVBDCP was
launched with the main objective of preven-
tion of malaria death.
Highlighting the activities being taken by
the department, Dr Joyson further informed
that 24 cases of malaria were detected in
Chandel district in 2015 out of which 22
cases were confined to Moreh and
Tengnoupal and 2 cases of imported malaria
cases in Chandel and Chakpikarong.
There was no report of death due to
malaria last year, he informed.
He also lauded the relentless service of
the ASHAs and expressed optimism that
DSSS and NGOs of the district would also
contribute in the process of controlling ma-
laria in the border villages of the district.
Chandel DC Robert said that the people
and the State Government agencies must
extend their helping hands in eradicating
malaria disease.
He said that Malaria Day is being ob-
served to impart knowledge on symptoms,
prevention and treatment of malaria to the
villagers.
