JAC demands immediate repair of damaged river bank, threatens to launch agitation

JAC against the non completion of river bank Namthangpung, has warned that if the authority concerned fails to repair the river banks near Namthangpung, Sanjenthong, various agitation will be launched.
Speaking to media persons, Namthangpung Youth Club advisor Boyes Kom said that after the said river bank gave way on June 13 last year, the surrounding areas, including AIR Imphal were flooded.
Then on July 4, the damaged river bank was inspected by Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Ram Meghawal, Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip and other related officials and construction of a retaining wall began.
However, the work has stopped completely now, he alleged adding that if the work is not completed before the arrival of Manipur, then the surrounding areas will be greatly affected by flood.
Pointing out that the people does not want just some distribution of aids like rice and pulses only after a flood occurs, he demanded the work to be completed at the earliest.
Leaders of various CSOs from Soibam Leikai, Nongmeibung, Wangkhei, New Checkon and New Lambulane were also present at the meet.
A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister later.
