Imphal, December 31 2017:
A team of the All Women People Action Committee Against the Brutal Killing of Pravish Chanam of Manipur at Greater Noida, comprising six members will leave Imphal tomorrow for New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urge them to hand over the Pravish death case to CBI.
The team will also stage a sit-in protest at an appropriate location in New Delhi in collaboration with some students' organisations and civil organisations of North East there.
Addressing a press meet held today at the residence of late Pravish Chanam at Uripok Achom Leikai this evening, spokesperson of the All Women People Action Committee Against the Brutal Killing of Pravish Chanam of Manipur at Greater Noida, RK Tharak-sana conveyed that the committee will stick to its earlier stand as the State Government has not taken up any significant step to help hand over the case to CBI till today.
She lamented that the State Government in spite of its assurance in the past to look into the matter, is playing delaying tactics and paying no heed to the demand for justice.
Asserting that the committee is in touch with some students' organisations and civil society organisations of the North East like the Manipur Students' Association of Delhi (MSAD), Tharaksana informed that a sit-in-protest will also be staged demanding the hand over of Pravish Chanam's death case to CBI and justice to the murder case.
Convenor of the committee, Wahengbam Satyabati stated that the team will not return home until and unless the Central Government gives an assurance on the committee's demand.
She decried that there were numerous incidents of murders, and assaults and victimisation of North East people in mainland India, but no appropriate actions have been taken up against those involved in the cases while leaving the victims and their families to not only bear the pain and suffering but also to take up the legal action on their own.
A few months back, Pravish Chanam was cremated as an unclaimed body by Noida Sector 20 Police Station on September 10, 2017 despite giving a missing complaint at Knowledge Park Police Station on September 9, 2017.He was gone missing after attending a music concert at Knowledge Park on September 8, 2017 .
