Ukhrul denizens continue to mount pressure to shift SBI branch to main town

In view of the hardship face by the denizens of Ukhrul town, they have been persistently mounting pressure to the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul to complete the process of shifting SBI, Somsai branch at Mini Secretariat Office Complex within this year, report our correspondent.
Earlier, the Tangkhul Social Organization leaders held a joint meeting with the bank authority including the District Administrator and had mutually agreed to shift SBI, Branch at Mini Secretariat Office in 2018 in the interest and the demand of the customers for easy accessibility of the bank, added our correspondent.
According to a reliable source, the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul has officially instructed SBI Branch Manager, Somsai Ukhrul to expedite the process of shifting the bank in the set time without any further delay to avert unnecessary public outcry and compliant against it, report our correspondent while adding that DC, Ukhrul has already allotted one whole block at Secretariat office complex for accommodation.
Clearance for shifting of SBI, Somsai branch to Mini Secretariat has been already approved by MHA and RBI, however physical arrangement and construction work for installation of machines, equipments etc.
to be taken up by technical experts from engineering department is still awaited for initiation, it added.
The SBI officer said, until this physical arrangement is completed, shifting of bank would not be feasible within this year, it added.
While interacting with some of the SBI customers, they expressed their difficulties and ordeal while doing banking transaction at Somsai branch, added our correspondent.
One of the customers complaint that they face lots of inconveniences while traveling to the bank, have to pay exorbitant taxi fare and they spent the whole day for the mere transaction.
