Liangmai artiste Dee Abonmai no more

Imphal, October 30 2017:
Noted Liangmai artist Dee Abonmai alias Digommang passed away on October 28 after a brief illness in Imphal.
He was 58.The funeral of the departed artist was held on Sunday at Tamei in Tamenglong district .
Dee Abonmai was a singer, composer, lyricist, actor and director.
He was also a school teacher and an evangelist.
His songs are mostly on social ills .
In an exclusive interview with Newmai News Network in 2009, (L) Dee Abonmai, who hailed from Lamlaba, a village under Tamei sub-division of Tamenglong district, had talked about his hardship while making digital films .
“Cinema is a vital medium that influences our society and I have taken up this profession armed with almost nothing because I want to eradicate social ailments through this medium,” Dee Abonmai had to say in the same interview.
Dee Abonmai had cited that on one occasion he was watching a movie in 1974 when "I realised the powerful effect of cinema", adding, “I did not understand a word of Hindi but I could grasp the theme of the particular cinema I was watching on that day and realised how effective a cinema could be .
"After that incident I thought of making dramas at least since making a film was something impossible in those days."
According to the late artist, since he could not afford to hire lyricists and composer, he did it himself for his films .
Rangkang (Money) and Wangsune Kariating (The Spring Season) Mikdui ( Tears) are some of the notable digital films made by late Dee Abonmai.
