Sadar Bazar Jame Masjid Managing Committee in a statement clarified that there is no attempt to rename or establish a separate market within Paona Bazar.
The committee maintained that the name ' Sadar Bazar Jame Masjid' should be interpreted as a name of the Masjid and stated that a Masjid cannot be a market and no attempt should be made by anyone to project it as one.
Giving more clarity on the issue which has garnered unwanted attention and to dispel any misgivings and doubts in the minds of the public, the Committee mentioned that in 1905, Sadar Bazar and Maxwell Bazar were established at the southern side and northern side of Khwairamband Bazar by Maxwell, the then Political Agent.
When the Masjid was established in 1896 during the tenure of Maxwell, the present location was named as Sadar Bazar and hence the Masjid was named as 'Sadar Bazar Jame Masjid' and there is no intention to establish another separate market, the Committee clarified.
The letterhead of the Masjid also mentions its location as Paona Bazar, added the statement.
