10 'associates' of Nando remanded to police custody till Apr 4

Imphal, March 30 2019:
Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East remanded 10 individuals who were arrested by Imphal East district police for alleged involvement in the escape of KCP Nando faction leader Thokchom Nando from JNIMS hospital, to police custody till April 4 .
According to a reliable source, the persons arrested in connection with the case are identified as Aheibam Rameshwor (53) s/o Yaima of Moidangpok Maning Leikai, Yumnam Rajesh (52) s/o (L) Raghumani of Sagolband Meino Leirak, Hungyo Rockson (45) s/o (L) Stungyo of Nambisha Khullen, Khangembam Arundas (43) s/o Ingo of Thoubal Athokpam, Leinlalzon Singson (33) s/o (L) George of B Vengnom Churachandpur, Khagembam Naobi (30) s/o Deben of Thoubal Athokpam Mayai Leikai, M Washington Seiyao (29) s/o Kathon of Khulimol village Chandel, Thangsha Makham (27) s/o Angkha of Leibi village Chandel, Irom Abe (31) w/o Naobicha of Phundongbam Mayai Leikai and Khunjamayum Anjali (28) w/o Kesho of Sagolmang Mamang Leikai.
They were arrested soon after a sou moto case was registered on March 27, a day after Nando escaped from JNIMS hospital, on receiving information that some police personnel, jail staff of Sajiwa Central Jail who were detailed on watch duty of the accused, and some unknown ladies, had aided in Nando's escape.
Following the registration of the suo moto case, police arrested them for interrogation.
Even though no incriminating articles could be seized by the police, the arrested individuals admitted to the charges levelled against them during interrogation.
The IO of the case had submitted before the Court that in further course of investigation it was learned that the arrested persons were over ground workers and sympathizers of the KCP Nando faction and the warders and the security personnel had helped Nando in procuring mobile phones and had also allowed unauthorized visitors to meet him.
It was further submitted that the said individuals also helped in harbouring and concealing Nando and prayed for police custody remand and formal arrest of the accused persons.
After hearing the submission of the IO, the Court, yesterday, allowed the police prayer and remanded all the accused into police custody till April 4 .
