Footballer N Ramananda gets new kidney

Imphal, December 29 2021: Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) successfully performed kidney transplantation on Ningthoujam Ramananda Meitei, a well-known case of Chronic Kidney Disease on December 15 .

A statement from SHRI informed that the transplantation team comprised of Dr Guliver Potsangbam, Director & Consultant Nephrologist, Dr Somorendro Paonam, Consultant Urologist & Renal Transplant Surgeon, Dr Devendra Khwairakpam, Consultant General & Laparoscopic surgeon and Dr Mahele Maharabam, MS, MCh-Urology, Consultant Urologist, Shija Kidney Center and the Critical Care team at SHRI.

The statement further informed that Ningthoujam Ramananda Meitei's wife was the donor and her kidney was removed through laparoscopic nephrectomy (keyhole surgery) .

It may be noted that this was the 59th kidney transplantation performed by the hospital.

The elated parents of the family expressed appreciation towards the hospital, treating team, and all the staff, the statement added.
