Workshop on information security held at MU

Information security workshop on 'Information Security awareness' was organised jointly by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Kolkata and Manipur University in association with Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India today at the Seminar Hall, Department of Computer Science, Manipur University.
Looking at the present situation of increasing rate of cyber-crimes, besides the regular R&D activities, C-DAC has also taken up the initiative to generate information security awareness among the public in a planned manner under the patronage of various institutes.
According to a statement, the module of the workshop contains internet ethics, password management, computer virus, types of cyber-crime including identity theft, e-mail threats and tips, verification of e-mail sender, secure web browsing, data security, importance of copyrights, overview of cyber law, etc.
"The workshop is for safe internet use and secure mobile devices" said Tejmani Sinam, Head, Department of Computer Science, Manipur University.
Sourav Mitra, Engineer, ICT & Service Group, C-DAC said, "it is aimed to communicate about the importance of cyber security" .
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is a premier scientific society under the Department of Electronic and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), Government of India for carrying out research and development activities in IT, Electronics and associated areas.
The R&D areas of the centre are e-security, embedded systems, ubiquitous computing, e-learning and ICT development.
Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) is a Project formulated under DeitY (Department of Electronic & Information Technology), Government of India.
One of the activities under this project is to widely generate information security awareness to children, home users and non-IT professionals.
Recognizing the role of school students, teachers, and schools and universities, a strategy has been created to bring cyber security directly to them.
