Chandel, July 29 2018:
Expressing serious concern on the safety of TSA Moreh block president, Thongminlun Haokip including his family after the Moreh terrorist attack on July 13, 2018 where the justice is still awaited, Thadou Students' Association (TSA) said that his family is still recovering from the trauma and they are living in constant fear as the attackers are still threatening and hunting for Thongminlun, said a statement of the association.
While expressing dismay at letting the perpetrators roam free on the streets and carry on their terrorist activities, the association added that KNO/KNA and the Government would have been held responsible if any untoward incidents have happened to Thongminlun and his family in the attack.
It may be recalled that more than ten heavily armed cadres of the Kuki National Organisation /Kuki National Army (KNO/KNA) fiercely attacked several houses at Gamnom Veng in Moreh Ward Number 2, belonging to Thongkhomang Touthang, Chongkholun Lhungdim and (L) Onkholet Haokip on July 13 around 2 am while Paokhogin Haokip was also assaulted destroying many properties and several vehicles, said the statement.
In the attack, over 100 rounds of gunfire were fired and several bombs were lobbed into the houses, but no one was seriously injured in this attack.
However it has sent Shockwaves and fear psychosis in the minds of the people and even local CSOs are now frightened of speaking out the truth freely but toeing the line of the attackers for fear of reprisal, the statement added.
"While we appreciate the so-called peace banquet at Moreh on July 23 between the KNA and UKLF in the presence of several CSOs of Moreh, we would like to clarify that our demands and agitation in connection with the July 13 Moreh terrorist attack have nothing to do with the feud, if any, between KNA and UKLF, both of which are under SoO.
Neither Thongminlun nor TSA had any knowledge of the peace banquet or involvement in it," mentioned the statement.
The association also strongly condemned the media statement issued by KNO/KNA in Eimi Times newspaper on July 24 which gave false and baseless information against Thongminlun and TSA Moreh block while denouncing the justification given by KNO/KNA regarding the attack which was a mere attempt to cover up their evil act.
Since the KNO/KNA have claimed responsibility for the terror attack, the Government and authorities concerned must book the culprits at the earliest and bring them to justice while adding that they must be removed permanently from Moreh and its surrounding area to prevent such incidents in future for lasting peace, security and public safety, maintained the statement.
While urging the State Government, security forces and relevant authority concerned to take up necessary actions against the masterminds of the attack and to provide compensation to the affected persons in the attack, the association cautioned that they will renew the agitation in an intensified manner until perpetrators of the crime are arrested and justice is delivered.
