Mother horse electrocuted leaving a colt

Imphal, June 29 2015 :
One Manipuri Indigenous pony was electrocuted at Ghari Makha Leikai transformer on Monday morning at around six am.
Recently, the population of the Manipuri pony has gone down to a dangerously low level of less than 500.According to Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department survey report the number of pony in the state was 1893 in the year 2003 and decreased to 1218 in the year 2007.But the latest population as found by the CAG was less than 500 now.
Besides Manipur Horse riding and polo Association, Manipur Equestrian Association, Polo Clubs and Private horse Breeding Farms jointly found the low population.

Transformer was open and there is no wire enclosure in all the sides nor is there no fencing.
The Manipur State Power Company Limited has not taken up any safety measures necessary for the transformer since a long time.
Local man said that recently a cow was also electrocuted there.
Until now no owner has claim the dead horse.
Local residents of the Ghari Youth welfare Association started erecting fencing around the transformer.
