A 23-year-old youth has been arrested and remanded to 4 days police custody for posting a series of alleged derogatory comments against Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Facebook.
The youth identified as Usham Manglem, s/o Gopi of Uripok Laikhurembi Leirak and he was arrested yesterday around noon after the Imphal Police Station registered a suo moto case.
He was produced in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today noon and remanded to 4 days police custody till July 31 .
During the hearing today, the Investigation Officer of the case through APP submitted that the comments which contain "insulting statements" amount to soliciting the public to rise against the lawfully elected Government and also criminally intimidating the lawfully established Government.
Further, the posts are provocative to the Chief Minister's supporters and family members and are likely to cause fear or alarm the public tranquillity and also promote enmity and ill will between different communities, submitted the IO .
