Expert rebuffs baseless rumours, appeals for proper vaccination

As part of the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign (from March 26 till April 30), a sensitization meeting was held for parents, religious leaders andpublic at Kwakta Municipal Council conference hall, Bishnupur district.
The meeting deliberated on MR vaccination and false ru-mour& about the vaccine which have alarmed many people, reports our correspondent.
District Health Society Bishnupur and Kwakta Municipal Council organised the meeting in which Manipur Minority Commission Chairperson Dr Burhamuddin, Kwakta Municipal Council Chairperson, Md Maheruddin, District Family Welfare Officer Bishnupur Dr P Merajao Singh, MO in charge Kwakta PHC Dr L Nandakumar Singh and UNICEF representative Shabad Ahmad attended as presidium members.
Terming the recent false rumours about the vaccination as unfortunate and baseless, Dr Burhamuddin stated that the vaccine was tested and then provided to children at different States while assuring that the vaccinations are completely safe and that people should not give in to some statements/ rumours which are based on unfounded facts.
He further stated that the vaccination is not categorised into communities or religion while adding that the vaccination has proved successful in eradicating and preventing Measles and Rubella in some developed countries.
The vaccination campaign was launched in Manipur after it turned out successful in 17 States of the country, he informed.
The Chairperson clarified that rumours and stigma against the vaccination that it is given to decrease the population of a particular community or it is given to prevent pregnancy in women of a particular community etc are baseless and false.
Regarding the recent incident which claimed that a' child died after taking the vaccine, he clarified that the incident has nothing to do with the vaccination and that unfortunate incident was caused by some other illness which the child was suffering from.
Informing that several Muslim institutions in both UP and Manipur have also clarified the vaccination to be harmless, the Chairperson motivated all to make the vaccination campaign successful in Bishnupur district similarly to other districts of the State.
Appealing all to extend support and not to listen to the false rumours of the vaccine, Dr Burhamuddin further appealed everyone to get their children vaccinated.
Later, some left out students of Madrassa Jamiatus Salihat and Kwakta boarding were also vaccinated at the end of the meeting.
