Talks on prevention of suicide held

CCpur, September 27 2019:
The first media interaction on prevention of suicide was conducted today at Hornbill Cable Network studio here with a four-member panelist drawn from various profession leading the discussion that was conducted by the District Health Society under the National Mental Health Programme.
During the course of the discussion, it has come to light that cases of suicide was more prevalent in male than on female with the data collected by NEST since 2014 reflecting a ratio of 3:1.There are about 100 cases of suicide in the town area alone during the same period.

A good majority, 82.6 percent of the victims are in their prime of life � less than 40 years while the reasons for most of the cases, the panelist believe are likely to be offshoot of a soured relationship.
The panelist comprising of a counsellor, a psychiatrist, a church leader and a social worker have shared their experiences and the likely remedy to contain the suicide rate which shows a staggering 12 cases in the past 9 months of 2019.The NEST data collected from areas covering 33 cemeteries shows that there are 3 cases of suicide in every 60 days.
The cases though swells in 2015 and 2017 .
The likely cause of suicide, it is said varies but the best possible way to prevent one from taking the extreme step is to talk them out; to hear and share the thoughts and opinions of people who may have shown signs of suicidal mindset and get medical aid for people with symptoms of depression, opined the panelist even as they posess a shared opinion of the need for more awareness on the issue and a mutual efforts from all stake holders.
Representatives of NEST gracing the event also hinted that there are about as much number of road fatalities as suicide in the district.
However, it was Cancer that is the leading case of mortality in CCpur town, they have added.
