Milestone blood donors feted, blood donation camp conducted

National Health Mission Manipur, Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) Department of Transfusion Medicine (RIMS), Blood Bank & Transfusion Unit (JNIMS) and IMA (Manipur State Branch) joined hands to organised a State level felicitation ceremony of milestone blood donors, in connection with World Blood Donor Day.
The ceremony was held at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat today.
Out of the ten milestone blood donors, State Programme Officer (State Blood Cell) NHM Manipur, Dr L Tomcha was also present.
A blood donation camp was also conducted as part of the ceremony wherein many individuals including doctors donated their blood.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Health & Family Welfare Minister, L Jayanta Kumar Singh urged doctors, nurses and other medical staff to treat their patients with care as the only moto the medical professionals is "Save Life".
Earlier, there were insufficient blood banks in the State but fortunately there are four blood banks at RIMS, JNIMS, Churachandpur and Bishnupur.
The Minister said that maximum number of people will be benefited if blood banks are also set up at all the districts or at far flung areas.
He further stated that dedicated blood donors, who have contributed greatly to save many lives, should be encouraged and motivated.
Director Health Services Dr K Rajo Singh said that today's occasion will raise awareness and importance of blood donation among the masses.
He said that in individual realises about the importance of blood only when he needs it the most.
Lauding the blood donors, he said that their blood will contribute greatly in saving many lives.
State Mission Director NHM manipur N Bandana Devi and president of IMA, Manipur State Branch, Prof Brojen Singh Akoijam attended the event as president and guest of honour respectively.
Before the beginning of the programme, a rally was flagged off by State Mission Director, Director Health Services and president IMA from Medical Directorate.
The rally was wrapped up at IMA Lamphelpat.
Meanwhile, State Programme Officer (State Blood Cell) NHM Manipur Dr L Tomcha, while giving his keynote address stated that the amount of blood unit required for the people the State is 30,000 and the number of collected blood unit is 20,000.30 out of 100 blood units have been received from blood donors, he said while motivating all to reach 75 blood unit out of 100 .
