Kangpokpi, July 25 2022:
Civil society organisations of Kangpokpi have decided to impose a 24-hour total shutdown from midnight of July 26 in Kangpokpi district over shortages of staff nurses, and other manpower at District
Hospital Kangpokpi.
The decision was taken in a joint meeting held in Kangpokpi town on Monday.
Earlier, the CSOs had served four days' ultimatum to the state government and authorities concerned to fulfil their long pending demand for adequate staff nurses and other manpower as per the MGEL sanctioned posts in the district hospital.
Speaking to media persons on behalf of the CSOs, KSO Sadar
Hills general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip maintained that the ultimatum served to the government and the authorities concerned expired on Monday with no response, compelling them to take their own
course of action.
"Therefore, we have decided to impose a 24- hour total shutdown from midnight of July 26 to midnight of July 27," he said.
Thangtinlen Haokip also cautioned that if the state government and the authorities concerned fail to address their demand even after the imposition of the total shutdown, then various intense forms of agitation will be launched.
He recalled that despite several efforts for more than a year back to draw the attention of the state government and the authorities concerned through sincere plea to address the grievances of the people owing to the shortage of staff nurses and other manpower at the district hospital, they turned a deaf ear.
The general secretary further urged all like-minded people of the state and CSOs, intellectuals, etc., to understand the situation and render maximum support and cooperation in the larger interest of public health.
He also appealed to the people of Kangpokpi district to extend all possible assistance during the total shutdown for the cause of quality health services at the District Hospital Kangpokpi.
