Senior citizens take up tree plantation programme at Ukhrul circular road

Ukhrul, July 25 2018:
Kajami Long, Ukhrul - a senior citizens organization- has today planted more than 300 sapling of trees on the eastern circular road of Ukhrul town.
The organization had long been initiating different activities in the Ukhrul town and other parts of Ukhrul District to increase the green cover area by planting valuable trees since couple of years back.
DFO, Ukhrul Shangam Shaliwo kicked off the tree plantations programme and praised the senior citizens of Ukhrul for their enthusiastic endeavor inspite of their old age while contributing their bit in replenishing the forest, which was destroyed during the construction of Eastern circular road of Ukhrul.
Hongvah Secretary Kajami Long said that their objective to take part on the plantation programme is to ensure that the younger generation participate more on green environment movement while inculcating the spirit of preservation of forest and wild animals for future generation.
The tree saplings were provided by Divisional forest, Ukhrul free of cost, they added.
More than 40 senior citizens of Ukhrul took part in the one day plantation programme on the Rihai Katuk to Kazar stretch.
