Imphal, June 25 2012:
Self Support Group, a body formed by women affected by HIV/AIDS, has threatened to launch intense agitations to disrupt the ensuing Assembly Sessions if the issues concerning widows and children living with HIV/AIDS are not taken up for discussion in the House.
Addressing media persons in this regard at the office of Centre for Social Development at Minuthong here today, K Devala, President of Self Support Group, said that members of Manipur Legislative Assembly should bring out ways and means of providing livelihood to widows living with HIV/AIDS and provide education support to children living with HIV/AIDS.
The government should consider on priority basis the problems being faced by this section of the society which often faces discrimination.
Devala pointed out that just providing BPL cards and job cards under MGNREGS to widows living with HIV/AIDS cannot meet the requirements of their families.
Forget about people living with HIV/AIDS, even normal people cannot survive on it.
Moreover, people living with HIV/AIDS cannot work like normal persons and earn a living due to their poor health conditions.
Even though they cannot work on equal terms with normal persons, they have to earn a living to look after their families.
Demanding passing of a policy for widows and children living with HIV/AIDS within 7 days from commencement of the Assembly session on June 27, Devala warned of launching intense agitation to disrupt the remaining session of the Assembly if the Government fails to give due weightage to their demand.
