SEECUO demands adequate medical staff at Kwakta PHC

Kwakta Primary Health Centre lacks adequate medical staff and is affecting the quality of services it provides to the people in the region, said Socio Economic Educational and Cultural Upliftment Organisation (SEECUO) today.
SEECUO information and publicity secretary Anish Ahamad Mayangmayum told media persons that the Primary Health Centre has three doctors against 10 sanctioned posts and three nurses against 15 sanctioned posts.
The PHC has no cleaner and there are only three beds each in the male and female wards.
The PHC was next to the Bishnupur district hospital in terms of child delivery cases it handled, he said expressing that shortage of staff has a toll on the functioning of the centre.
The PHC is a destination for locals of Terakhongshangbi, Kwakta, Torbung and Bangla and other villages.
Lack of infrastructure needs coupled with the shortage of staff has severely affected the functioning of the centre, he added.
As the centre lacks manpower, night service has stopped and more importantly, the centre has no capacity to admit pregnant women for delivery, he said adding that people now travel as far as Moirang and Imphal during emergencies.
Seeking the attention of the State Government and authority concerned for needful action, he said that SEECUO has not alternative but to launch democratic form of agitation if required staff are not provided by January 3 .
SEECUO president Rahmad Ali, vice president Habibur Rahman and general secy Dilwar Khan also attended the press meet held at the premises of the PHC.
