Protesting alleged molestation of a 40- year- old woman by Mayengbam Romen (31), s/o Mayengbam Kulla, victim's family, Patsoi Meira Paibis and Women Action for Development today demanded a justified punishment to Mayengbam Romen and condemned the mental harassment inflicted upon the victim in Patsoi police station.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Patsoi Meira Paibis secretary, Pramila stated that the victim was molested on July 23 at around 7 pm.
Police arrived on spot after the incident caused a stir and thereafter arrested Mayengbam Romen.
The victim was called to report at the police station wherein she was brought before OC, Second OC and women Constables.
During the interrogation, OC Nandababu allegedly used indecorous words.
Women Action for Development Consultant, Babycha asserted that Mayengyam Romen has been selected for the ASI rank officer.
Stating that it is alarming to realize that those who are to safeguard the people from all injustices, Mayengbam Romen, a person with no respect for women, are one of them.
Police Department while conducting various examinations must not take only physical requirement into account.
Moral ethics and dignified behaviour should be taken into consideration, the organisation added.
Ways to deal with women victims must be trained, it further stated.
Urging the authority concerned to punish the involved police, the organisation also appealed the Patsoi Assembly Constituency MLA Mirabai to take up necessary steps to fight crime against women.
