Imphal, May 24 2018:
National Students' Union of India (NSUI) Manipur State has alleged that the proposal of the BJP regarding the ranking system of the combined civil service exam conducted by the UPSC will bring down the overall value of the exam.
Speaking to media persons at NSUI State office at Congress Bhawan today, NSUI State Unit president P Bankimchandra informed that the Prime Minister Office sent a proposal to the UPSC recently, to revise the combined civil services exams conducted by UPSC.
He explained that candidates are ranked based on the marks obtained in the prelims, main and interviews and are selected as IAS and IPS officers and this system has been in place for a long time.
However, the BJP Government proposed a ranking system based on a foundation course after the candidates pass theciyil service exam.
He claimed that if IAS and IPS are selected based on the performance during the foundation course, then the dreams Of many who have been studying hard for such civil service exams will be shattered.
This whole process is an attempt to select candidates based on preferences, he alleged.
Bankimchandra explained that it is not possible to ascertain the hidden potential, talents, quality and capabilities of the candidates based on the foundation course which is only six months long.
The NSUI State president further claimed that the proposal of the BJP Government is an attempt to appoint only its people and contacts as high officials in every department and added that NSUI strongly condemns the proposal which will degrade the value of the civil service exams.
He continued that any change or revision should be done with ample preparations and by consulting various experts as such reckless and hasty revisions would shatter the dream of many youths.
Bankimchandra claimed that protest against the proposal put forward by the BJP Government has been gaining momentum in South India and the feedbacks and opinions of students of various coaching centres of the country regarding the proposal are all negative.
If such a proposal is enforced, even the UPSC will fall into the hands of a few powerful people, he added.
