Thoubal, April 24 2019:
Ex-minister Moirangthem Hemanta, who is also president of Khongjom War Memorial Trust (KWMT), has alleged that the undignified act of concealing the story and contribution of our fearless forefathers in Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891 by the BJP led State Govt during the observance and commemoration function held to remember the brave sons, who valiantly fought in the Anglo-Manipuri War in 1891 this year, has demeaned the importance of the day.
While interacting with the media persons in a press meet held at the office of Khongjom War Memorial Trust today, he further criticized the State Govt for distributing a booklet on 'Go to Village Mission' instead of 'Manipur Today' (Khongjom Day) booklet which used to be distributed every year on the day to immortalize and dignify the story of the courageous sons, published by DIPR, GoM, adding that it is unfitting and unsuitable in view of the event.
"Instead of distributing 'Manipur Today' booklet having photos of Paona Brajabashi and Memorial complex of 'Kheba Ching' on the cover, which was published in the memory and in honour of Khongjom War, the State Govt has distributed a booklet having photos of PM and CM of Manipur, which is pointless and unnecessary.
It is a very unfortunate and disgraceful act on the part of the State Govt for failing to distribute a booklet that honour the brave sons of the soil on such auspicious day", said Moirangthem Hemanta.
It is quite absurd to witness distribution of a booklet titled "Go to Village Mission", published by DIPR, on "Khongjom Day", he added and termed it as inappropriate gesture on the part of Govt.He continued that since 1972, different types of booklets having detailed information about the historic war were published and distributed to the public to make them aware of the invaluable contribution made by the forefathers which is also a valuable documents for the future generation.
In contrast, the present State Govt published and distributed "Go to Village Mission" booklet which is inessential given the nature of the event, he maintained.
The press meet was also attended by vice-president, Khongjom War Memorial Trust, H Biren Singh; secretary Th Surendra Singh and joint secretary S Sangkar Singh.
