Imphal, February 24 2024:
The Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union has called for a House resolution to waive-off loan for the people of Manipur be taken during the upcoming session of the State Legislative Assembly.
Speaking to the media at its office at Soibam Leikai today, the union secretary (administration) Mutum Churamani said that many people who started small businesses by taking a loan from different banks have lost their houses and sources of income in the course of Manipur violence and they have been taking refuge elsewhere.
Saying that banks demanding loan's interest at this juncture is inappropriate, Churamani urged all the MLAs to take a resolution to waive off the loan amount during the Assembly session.
Some loanees also attended the press briefing.
They said that banks calling them again and again to pay the loan's interest is unfortunate given the situation in Manipur.
