Education is key to women empowerment, says Edn Minister

Thoubal, January 24 2020: Education Minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam has urged the people to identify school dropout girl in the locality so that necessary measures could be taken up to enrol them in the school.

The Minister was speaking at the felicitation ceremony of women achievers of Thoubal District, organised by the District Task Force, Thoubal-Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at Counting Hall, DC Office complex, Thoubal.

He said that education is the key to women empowerment and it is therefore important that every girl child receive a proper education.

Saying that through education women can have better access and opportunities, Dr Thokchom Radheshyam continued that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in 2015 to check discrimination against the girl child.

Taking the example of Magnificent Mary Kom, the Minister lamented that many administrative and important positions in the public as well private sectors are held by women today.

He also lauded the task force for organising the programme felicitating the women achievers of the district.

These achievers will be the role model and inspiration for many young girls, the Minister asserted.

The programme was also attended by Deputy Commissioner, N Bandana Devi and Adhakshya Thoubal Zila Parishad, Hasina Begum.
