'Shabu Hong Rien-2019' celebrated at Purum Chumbang village

Chandel, October 23 2019: Pre-harvesting festival of Chothe "Shabu Hong Rien - 2019" was celebrated today at Purum Chumbang Village Community Hall, Chandel District.

The festival jointly organised by Purum Chumbang Village Authority and Purum Chumbang Baptist Church was attended by Chothe Lim Abom Manipur (CLAM), president, Mingthing Thao; ADC Chandel, Member, Th Joy Lamkang; North East Dialogue Forum, Co-ordinator, U Jenison; Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights, president, Kh Phajaton, social worker, Ng Koshing Moyon, Indianeers Media Private Limited, Manipur State, Head, Chitreshwar Singh Thoudam, chiefs of various villages and members of Village Authority.

On the occasion, Pastor of Purum Chumbang Baptist Church, Rev Y Halpu Chothe prayed for the festival to bless all farmers with abundant harvest while Mingthing Thao and Th Joy Lamkang released a CD for the centenary rising day celebration of Purum Chumbang Village.

Later, the village elders fastened a rice bead to a specific tree to signify and welcome the arrival of harvesting season.

Several dance and music performances were also presented by the local youth to mark the observance.

Shabu Hong Rien is considered to be one of the most important cultural festival for Chothe and celebrated with utmost sensitivity and care before Christianity was introduced in the State.
