Volunteers of All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) caught a youth who had snatched gold ear-rings from six children who were sleeping at a Durga puja pandal at Kha-Sanjenbam Mayai Leikai in Imphal west district 10 days back on October 14 .
Twenty-one year old Laishram Bipin of Kha-Sanjenbam Leikai was produced before the media today at AMADA's head office.
He has been accused of snatching ear-rings from Laishram Ajoy (13), Laishram Naresh (9), Laishram Chingkheinganba (8), Yumnam Sanathoi (7), Laishram Goutam (8) and Laishram Ibomcha of the same locality.
Volunteers of AMADA who investigated the case caught him yesterday.
He is a drug addict.
Taking advantage of the sleeping children, he committed the crime on the night of October 14 .
After robbing the gold ear-rings, he sold them to a jewellery house at Hiyangthang Bazar on the next day.
He acquired Rs.7800 which he spent with his friends.
AMADA's 'secretary organisation' Konjengbam Meghachandra said that the owner of the jewellery where Bipin had sold the ear-rings was also caught but let off after an understanding was brought about.
Before releasing him, he was warned not to accept items from unknown origins.
He also said that AMADA has asked the family of Bipin to refund the due amount to the families of the respective children within 15-days.
