Prominent political leader and human rights advocate, Sushil Huidrom is no more.
He breathed his last on Saturday after a prolonged struggle with cancer.
He was 58 .
Sushil Huidrom was known for his significant contributions to both the political and human rights landscape of Northeast India.
In December 2023, he joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as national secretary, overseeing the party's activities in the Northeast.
Before his tenure with the NCP, Sushil Huidrom spent over eight years with the National People's Party (NPP), where he held key roles including legal advisor, vice president and spokesperson for the state of Manipur.
He also served as the national secretary for the party's affairs in Nagaland, Mizoram & Arunachal Pradesh.
Beyond politics, Sushil Huidrom was a dedicated human rights advocate.
He served as general secretary of the Civil Liberties & Human Rights Organisation, working on various issues related to civil liberties and human rights protection.
Sushil Huidrom was also associated with the United Nations and USAID on issues related to HIV & AIDS, public health and development for over 14 years.
