Imphal, November 22 2010:
Confederation of Chiefs' Association (COCA), Manipur has demanded separate autonomous administrative units for self-governance of tribals in the hill districts
of Manipur.
Submitting a memorandum in this connection to AICC president Sonia Gandhi during her recent visit to Manipur, the Association urged for taking up the issue for creation of autonomous administrative units for the six tribal district councils of Manipur for self governance with Constitution protection so that the tribals of Manipur may have the chance to retrieve the loss of their past glory, shed their insecurity in their soil of their motherland and live peacefully with other communities as good neighbours and also with the rest of the country.
In another memorandum submitted to the Hill Area Committee chairman, COCA demanded that it should be kept informed of the fund released by the Central Government so that the Association may be of great help to the implementing agencies of various schemes under special package programmes.
