Kangpokpi, November 21 2019:
The 120-year-old Inspection Bungalow erected by the British in 1898 stood totally forgotten at the Kangpokpi DHQs with crumbling roofs and walls since the past many years until local MLA and Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen took the initiative to restore it.
Acknowledging the historical importance of the structure, the Works Department, under the initiative of the Minister, has restored the structure.
Kangpokpi district has two such structures built by the British- one at Kangpokpi DHQs and another at Gamgiphai.

Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen accompanied by the local Town Committee chairman, Lunseh Kipgen and his colleagues visited the renovated Inspection Bungalow at Kangpokpi DHQs and Type-III Quarters for Government employees near the IB.
During the inspection, Nemcha Kipgen said that the Bungalow can accommodate the Chief Minister, Ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats apart from tourists when they visit Kangpokpi.
The restoration work of the Bungalow was taken up acknowledging its historical importance, she said.
During the colonial era, the British built the 'Dak Bungalows or Inspection Bungalows' and rest houses at specific distance, typically 18 to 20 miles apart, so that British officers could stop and rest while travelling long distance.
