DLSAs organise 'One day legal awareness programme'

The District Legal Services Authority, Senapati under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) organised a one day online awareness programme with the CSOs, Panel Lawyers, PLVs of DLSA, Senapati today.
During the programme, Sorokhaibam Sadananda, Deputy Member Secretary, MASLSA elaborated on the topic 'Victim Compensation Schemes in Manipur: Identifying the problems faced by the applicants/ victim families & role of CSOs, PLVs and Panel Lawyers' .
He stated that the whole process was to be completed and the awarded amount should be dispersed to the victim family within one month if it is for POCSO case, and 3 months for other cases from the date of the judgement order.
He also clarified the reason for not getting the compensation amount in time is due to lack of funds and the normal file process that follows in the Secretariat Office.
As a part of the programme, an interaction with the participants was also conducted.
Samom Ibjen, Chairman, DLSA, Senapati; A Tarunakumari Devi, secretary DLSA, Senapati; Koshia Mao, Additional Public Prosecutor to District & Sessions Court, Senapati; Ningombam Sofiarani Devi, JMFC, Kangpokpi; CSOs of Senapati and Kangpokpi District; S Marysena, Retainer Lawyer, Front Office of DLSA, Senapati; Panel Lawyers, PLVs of Senapati also took part in the programme.
Similarly, as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the District Legal Services Authority, Chandel (DLSA) in association with Sakhi One Stop Centre, Chandel organized a One Day Legal Awareness Programme on "Gender based violence- Its effect to Social Development" with special focus on 'Low report of Domestic Violence cases' during the pandemic and ways to advise them.
The programme conducted under the aegis of NALSA was attended by panel lawyers, PLVs, representatives and members of NGOs, CSOs of Chandel and Tengnoupal Districts.
The programme began with a welcome address by Kh Jacky Lucy Lamkang, Retainer Lawyer of DLSA, Chandel while Tuithung Rinchuipem, Centre Administrator, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Chandel gave the Keynote Address.
Tuithung Rinchuipem highlighted the mechanism of One Stop Centres in the districts of Chandel and Tengnoupal.
She also spoke on the importance of encouraging the people to seek legal help over customary laws.
Resource person, Kumari Brahmacharimayum Supriya, Advocate, spoke on the different types of gender based violence and the various cultural practices carried out in the society which violates the right of a woman.
She highlighted the disadvantages caused to the victims of domestic violence by premature settlement of cases under the customary laws by giving mere penalties.
During the discussion hour, many concerns were raised by participants on the lack of effective means to tackle the problems faced by the victims during the pandemic.
Their queries were satisfactorily addressed by the resource person and the Panel Lawyers of DLSA, Chandel.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from a representative of DLSA, Chandel.
