Awangkhunou COVID-19 Task Force protests home isolation idea

Imphal, August 21 2020: COVID-19 Task Force, Awangkhunou, Imphal West has staged a sit-in yesterday in protest against the new SOPs of the State Government to allow home isolation of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients at EPA shanglen.

Saying that 23 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected at the Awangkhunou village, a statement issued by the convenor of the task force maintained that the issuance of the SOP to allow home isolation of asymptomatic patients is ill-timed.

The threat still looms large as there is an unexpected rise in the number of cases in the villages and mass testing is underway, it said.

The SOP has created more panic in the minds of the villagers since there is hardly any house having a separate bathroom, toilet and kitchen rooms and as such, there is a high risk of a sudden explosion of COVID-19 cases in the village, it said.

Considering the impending threat, the Government should ensure that all COVID-19 patients are lodged at COVID Care Centres, it said while urging authorities concerned to retract the order issued to effectuate the new SOP.
